Tough strong ceramics from Ce-PSZ powders
Creators
- 1. Unitec Ceramics Ltd, Doxey Road, Stafford ST16 1EA (UK)
Description
An electro-fusion and refining process has been developed which facilitates the formation of homogeneous, sinter-active ceria stabilized zirconia materials. Powder characteristics and sintering behavior are reported for Ce-PSZ materials produced by this route. These are compared with Y-PSZ's from the same route and chemically prepared materials. The strength and remarkable toughness found in dense Ce-PSZ ceramics is discussed with reference to the microstructure, which can be controlled by modifying the powder chemistry and thermal history
