Description

We present the concept of a Digital Hadron Calorimeter with Resistive Plate Chambers as active elements for use in a detector optimized for the application of Particle Flow Algorithms to the measurement of hadronic jets. We report on tests of a small scale prototype calorimeter using muons, positrons and pions from the Fermilab test beam. The results are compared to Monte Carlo simulations of the set-up and provide a first validation of the concept of a Digital Hadron Calorimeter. We conclude with a progress report on the construction of a larger prototype section.
