Description

An approach for energy and emissions reduction in the fuel processing industry was presented. Energy consumption and gaseous emissions in the fuel processing industry are associated with furnaces, steam boilers, gas turbines, and diesel engines, all of which produce waste from combustion. It is necessary to find ways to maximize heat recovery in the heat exchangers for those processes with heat demand. An example of a successful retrofit of an oil hydrogenation refining plant was described. Simple thermodynamic models for furnaces, steam boilers, steam turbines and gas turbines were presented. Since CO2 and NOx are the most frequent targets of environmental legislation, a method for predicting nitrogen oxides emissions in furnaces and combustion chambers was described. The method is based on data from an experimental facility providing specific types of NOx burners
