Experimental study on accelerator-driven system at Kyoto University Critical Assembly

  • 1. Kyoto University, Research Reactor Institute, Kumatori, Osaka (Japan)

Description

The experimental study on the accelerator-driven system (ADS) is conducted for the basic research of energy amplifier system and nuclear transmutation with the combined use of the core at the Kyoto University Critical Assembly (KUCA) and the fixed-field alternating gradient (FFAG; 100 MeV protons) accelerator, in the Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute. The ADS experiments with 100 MeV protons are carried out to investigate the neutron characteristics of ADS, and the static and kinetic parameters are accurately analyzed through both the measurements and the Monte Carlo simulations of reactor physics parameters. An upcoming ADS at KUCA could be carried out in the highly-enriched uranium fueled, polyethylene- and Pb-Bi zoned core, and the reaction rate analyses of nuclear transmutation could be conducted with the use of 237Np capture and 241Am fission reactions.
