NEAMS structural mechanics: development status with core and seismic soil-structure interaction examples - 14393

  • 1. Methods Development Group, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, P.O. Box 808, L-125, Livermore, CA 94551 (United States)

Description

Under DOE sponsorship, a multi-laboratory team is developing the SHARP multi-physics simulation system targeting advanced reactor modeling. SHARP is leveraging physics simulation codes developed largely with an eye toward their own domain expertise and computational experience. Communication and coordination between these tailored physics modules is provided by a lightweight computational science framework. The structural mechanics module for SHARP is the Diablo code: a general-purpose, nonlinear multi-physics code built upon decades of expertise in numerical techniques for implicit solid mechanics. A multi-year project is underway to integrate this structural capability within SHARP. Here we present a current status by way of a recently completed demonstration. Furthermore, we provide a summary of work on soil-structure interaction under seismic loads, reflecting our long-term vision of addressing structural concerns extending to the balance of plant.
