Description

This article describes the organisation and work of the project engineers managing the design and construction of the Sizewell ''B'' Pressurized Water Reactor on the Suffolk coast. The design and manufacture of components in critical areas affecting safety is undertaken with the greatest care, and ultrasonic inspections are used to check for defects and structural integrity. The validation programme, which checks procedures, personnel and equipment, is described. It is to be carried out in cooperation with the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority. Although costly and lengthy, the validation has boosted confidence in flow detection inspection techniques applied to Sizewell ''B'' components. (UK)
