Effect of neutron spectra on the 233U and 232Th production
Creators
Description
Dependences of the concentration of 233U formed from 232Th and a number of neutrons spent in this process on the 232Th burnup and the flux density absolute value and neutron energy spectra are determined. Calculations are performed for two values of the thermal neutron effective flux density PHI=5x1013 and 1014 neutron/(cm2 x c). For each PHI value three values of the effective neutron spectrum hardness γ=0; 0.2; 0.4 are investigated. The obtained results are interesting from two points of view: firstly, the main physical characteristics of the 232Th → 233U process as a function of the thermal neutron flux density and energy spectruf which permits to estimate the efficiency of different reactor designs, secondly, the 232Th consumption decrease and neutron consumption increase at γ growth allows one to hope that for the 232Th → 233U process economical optimization problem will have non-trivial solution
