Clinical significance of changes of serum NSE, IL-8 and CNP levels in patients with acute craniocerebral injury

Objective: To explore the clinical significance of changes of serum NSE, IL-8 and CNP levels after treatment in patients with acute craniocerebral injury. Methods: Serum NSE, IL-8 and CNP levels with RIA in 30 patients with acute craniocerebral injury and 35 normal healthy controls. Results: Before treatment, serum NSE and IL-8 levels in patients with acute craniocerebral injury were significantly higher than those in controls (P < 0.01). But the serum CNP levels were apparently lower(P < 0.01). After treatment for 2 weeks. The levels were approaching normal (P > 0.05). Serum NSE level was positive correlated to serum IL-8(r= 0.6188, P < 0.01). While negative correlated with CNP level(r = -0.5782, P < 0.01). Conclusion: Detection of serum NSE, IL-8 and CNP levels might be helpful for assessment of the severity of disease process and prognosis. (authors)
