Superconducting characteristics of metal-YBa2Cu3O7-X composites

Description

Metal powder such as Au or Ag was mixed with a Y-Ba-Cu-O superconductor so as to improve its critical current density, Jc. The metals were uniformly dispersed in the superconductor without reacting on the Y-Ba-Cu-O system. The Jc for YBa2Cu3O7-x mixed with Au(5wt%) or Ag(3wt%) was magnified by a factor of four or two in comparison with the YBa2Cu3O7-x standard, respectively. The metal addition to YBa2Cu3O7-x did not appreciably influence the Tczero. Decrease of Tczero under the magnetic flux was considerably inhibited by the metal mixing. The Tczero for the composites was still higher than the liquid nitrogen temperature(77 K) even at the magnetic flux density of 7500 G. Superconducting characteristics, especially Jc, greatly increased with the metal (Au, Ag) addition since pores in the sintered YBa2Cu3O7-x sample were partially filled with the metal
