Actinoids / lanthanoids separations by novel BTBP/BTPhen extractants

Description

Management of the minor actinoids (Am, Cm) within a partitioning and transmutation strategy - selective separation followed by transmutation to shorter-lived radionuclides or stable elements - can lead to a significant decrease of volume of the final high-active waste, a decrease of its heat load allowing to decrease the footprint of the deep underground repository, and a reduction of the overall radiotoxity to the environment and humans. This paper summarised two recent contributions to the partitioning of minor actinoids (MAn): Extraction systems for trivalent lanthanoids and minor actinoids separation and Extracting compounds for solid-liquid extraction. The systems studied may find applications in e.g. TALSPEAK process simplification or - e.g. the CyMe4-BTPhen on Fe2O3 MNPs with SiO2 shell - for magnetically assisted MAn separation from various solutions.
