Concepts for the safety of nuclear power plants during decommissioning

  • 1. Westinghouse Electric Germany GmbH (Germany)

Description

Decommission, safe entombment and deconstruction of a nuclear power plant require licensing according paragraph 7 AtG. Securing measures are part of the licensing prerequisites and have to be fulfilled. Since no decommissioning standards exist, it is necessary to discuss the relevant issues with the regulating authorities based on the regulations of the standards for power operation and to develop appropriate safety concepts. This procedure allows adaptation of the safety measures in the frame of the decommissioning process to the changed boundary conditions and the changed risk potential. For the disconnection and deconstruction of reactor components a detailed plan has to be licensed considering the effects on the remaining system operation.
