G93.3 + 6.9: A highly polarized supernova remnant

Description

We present total power and linear polarization maps of the SNR G93.3 + 6.9 at 1720 MHz and 2700 Mz with resolutions of 7'.6 and 4'.4. The source appears to show certain characteristics of both shell-type and Crab-like remnants. Extremely high polarization percentage are found on the object, reaching beyond 50% at 2700 MHz. Information on rotation measure and depolarization percentage is given and a spectral index of 0.56 is deduced. From the Σ-D-z relations a most probable distance in the range 2-5 kpc is derived with corresponding linear diameters of 15-35 pc. The SNR is probably rather young. 1000-3000 yr being the most likely age range. (orig.)
