Air-oxidation kinetics of hafnium alloys containing platinum and palladium
Description
Air oxidation kinetics for the 6500 to 9800C (12000 to 18000F) temperature range are presented for seven alloys containing platinum and palladium below 3 pct by weight. The kinetics are paralinear for short-term exposure, parabolic behavior is exhibited followed by a gradual change to linear behavior. For all exposure times, the alloys form solid oxide scales platinumrich metallic subsurface layers. The alloys are all dual-phase alloys consisting of the alpha-hafnium terminal solid solution and an intermetallic phase, Hf2Pt (Hf2Pd). This paper is devoted primarily to a presentation of laboratory test data in a phenomenological format
