Together for radiation protection

The seminar had been intended as a platform for exchange of information between radiation protection experts from East and West Germany at the time when the unification of the two Germanies was decided in fact, but not in terms of a time schedule. The preparatory work for the future, and in concrete terms for this seminar, was then overhanded by the political events, so that some of the topics intended for discussion at the seminar lost their relevance. The Federal German radiation protection law having become effective in the former GDR already on July 1, 1990 , the priorities of the seminar had to be shifted to the Federal German radiation protection law and its concepts and partical implementation. However, there remained some problems for discussion specific to the phase of transition, as e.g. territorial radiation protection, long-standing environmental pollution in Thuringia and Saxonia, particular tasks for research and expert training. There is one poper reviewing the radiation profection regulations of Switzerland and the practical situation in this country, and another one looking at the perspectives of radiation protection measures and laws within the framework of the European Community. The concluding panel discussion concentrated on the situation in East Germany and activities to be performed in the future. (orig./HSCH)
