Process for plutonium rextraction in aqueous solution from an organic solvent, especially for uranium plutonium partition

Description

The organic solvent containing plutonium is contacted with an aqueous solution of a uranous salt, for instance uranous nitrate, and a hydroxylamine salt, for instance the nitrate. In these conditions uranous nitrate is a reducing agent of Pu III and hydroxylamine nitrate stabilizes Pu III and U IV in the aqueous phase. Performances are similar to these of the U IV-hydrazine nitrate without interference of hydrazine nitrate degradation products

Abstract (French)

On met en contact le solvant organique contenant le plutonium avec une solution aqueuse acide de sel uraneux, par exemple de nitrate uraneux, et de sel d'hydroxylamine, par exemple de nitrate d'hydroxylamine. Dans ces conditions, le nitrate uraneux agit comme agent reducteur du plutonium a la valence III et le nitrate d'hydroxylamine, stabilise PuIII et UIV en phase aqueuse. On obtient des performances comparables a celles du systeme UIV-nitrate d'hydrazine sans former les produits genants de degradation du nitrate d'hydrazine
