Angular distribution studies of gamma rays from the /sup 172/Yb(n,n'γ) reaction

Description

Energy levels of /sup 172/Yb have been studied using the (n,n'γ) reaction with fast reactor-neutrons. The de-excitation γ-rays from a target (5.68g of Yb2O3 enriched to 95.0% in /sup 172/Yb) were observed with a 30 cm3 coaxial Ge(Li) detector located at a distance of 40 cm from the target and coupled to a 4096 channel analyser. The system resolution was 2.5 keV FWHM for the 1.33 MeV γ-rays
