Description

A large number of biochemical reactions proceeds at lipid bilayer membranes. We try to characterize the lipid bilayer membranes by evaluating their viscosity and thermal diffusivity with picosecond time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy and picosecond time-resolved Raman spectroscopy. The time-resolved fluorescence experiments indicate that there are at least two different domains, fluid and viscous, even in the lipid bilayer membranes composed of single phospholipids. (author)
