Construction times and the decommissioning of nuclear power plants

Description
The construction and the decommissioning periods of nuclear power plants (NPP), are studied, due to their importance in the generation costs. With reference to the construction periods of these plants, a review is made of the situation and technical improvements made in different countries, with the purpose of shortening them. In regard to the decommissioning of NPP, the present and future situations are reviewed in connection with different stages of decommissioning and their related problems, as the residual radioactivity of different components, and the size of the final wastes to be disposed of. The possibilities of plant life extensions are also revised in connection with these problems. Finally, the expected decommissioning costs are analyzed. (Author)

Se hace una revision de los periodos de construccion y puesta fuera de servicio definitivo de las centrales nucleares, por su incidencia en los costos de generacion. Relativo al tiempo de construccion se analiza la situacion y mejoras tecnicas introducidas, para abreviarlo en diferentes paises. En la puesta fuera de servicio de las centrales nucleares, se revisa la situacion actual y la previsible en el futuro, en funcion de los diferentes niveles de puesta fuera de servicio de las plantas y sus problemas asociados, como la radioactividad residual de diferentes componentes y el volumen de desechos activos a que dara lugar este proceso. Se analizan asimismo las posibilidades de extension de la vida util de las centrales en conexion con esta problematica. Por ultimo se examinan los costos asociados con estos procesos. (Autor)Files
