Description

Nuclear power stations have numerous electronic systems at their disposal, usually summarised by the term ''Process Control''. Items of information are provided from more than 10,000 measurement points, on the basis of which the plants can be run safely and in accordance with the regulations. Because of its capacity to handle large amounts of information, microelectronics is of special importance. The clearly laid out form of presentation of the information on displays in the control room makes it easier for the reactor operator to make decisions, especially in stress situations. The GRS (Gesellschaft fuer Reaktorsicherheit mbH) is endeavouring, through its research work in this area, to make the advantages of microelectronics useful for reactor safety. It attaches great importance to the development of a comprehensive concept of qualification for modern microprocessor-controlled process control. (author)
