Monopole contamination of normal sequence stars
Description
This chapter considers the monopole contamination of the 1 M companion star of the fast binary pulsar PSR 1953+29. It is proposed that if monopoles were contained in the photosphere of the original binary partner of the neutron star, they would be transferred in the course of mass accretion and thus be subject to acceleration by the pulsar's magnetic field. An additional amount of kinetic energy beyond that gained from gravity would be produced. This energy would be dissipated when entering the star, the pulsar's stock of magnetic energy would be consumed, and the persistence of the magnetic field enables the setting of limits on the number of monopoles accreted. It is found that the photosphere of the examined star is practically monopole free
