Description

The purpose of study was to assess the quality of groundwater and its compatibility with the WA SA supply lines. For this purpose eighteen samples were collected from the selected areas of Lahore in such a way that two samples were collected from each site, one of groundwater and other WASA supply lines to make a comparison. The samples were analyzed for the physical and chemical properties and finally results were compared with WHO standards. The Na/sup +/ and K were determined with the help off lame emissions pectrophotometer. The heavy metals like Cu/sup 2+/+, Cd/sup 2+/ , Cr/sup 3+/, Pb/sup 2+/, Fe and Ni/ +2/ were determined with the help of atomic absorptions pectrophotometer Mg/sup 2/+, Ca/sup 2+/, cl and HCO/sub 3/sup 2/ were determined by titrimetric methods and physical parameters like pH, EC and TDS were determined by pH and EC meter respectively. It was observed that most of the samples do not obey the permissible limits given by WHO. (author)
