Mantle treatment of Hodkin's disease with 60Co gamma rays
Description
60Co mantle beams were used in the radiation treatment of patients| with Hodgkin's disease. A technique using beam-flattening filters is described. The dosimetry was based on dose plans drawn up manually for each patient. The good dosimetric accuracy of the method was verified by in vivo measurements of absorbed dose at the oesophagi of 60 patients. Split-course treatment with 40 Gy was given in 27 fractions over 71 days. Results and side-effects in 90 patients are analyzed. The local recurrence rate was 3 %. (author)
