Adsorption Potential of Na-X Zeolite in Cs-SrCo Multi-Component System: Kinetic and Thermodynamic Studies

Description
Zeolite X was prepared and evaluated for the removal of Cs+, Sr2+ and Co2+ ions from multicomponent ionic system. The physical characteristics of the prepared material were studied using X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Cation hydrolysis at different ph values was examined using visual MINTEQA2 computer program, and component speciation diagram was constructed to identify the optimum ph value at which all sorption experiments were carried out. Batch experiments were carried out to determine optimal conditions for the removal process including effect of contact time at different temperatures and metal ions concentrations. The kinetics of the sorption from multicomponent system containing Cs+, Sr2+ and Co2+ ions had been investigated. Sorption studies were also carried out at different temperatures. It was found that the data were fit reasonably well with the extended Langmuir isotherm model in terms of regression coefficient and correlation between experimental and calculated adsorbed amounts. Also, the thermodynamic parameters were calculated to obtain the actual indicators for practical application of the sorption process. From the obtained results, it could be concluded that zeolite X was found to be suitable adsorbent for the removal of Cs+, Sr2+ and Co2+ ions from aqueous multicomponent system.
