Description

A rhombohedral Mn Ca (1-x) CO3 (rhodochrosite-calcite) solid solution mineral series from the Sasa ore field, Macedonia, was found principally as fissure fillings in cutting fractures of ore bearing cipolines, cipoline schists and calcite skarns of the Sasa-Toranica lead-zinc ore deposit in the Osogovo Mountains, Eastern Macedonia. The vein minerals were deposited during a single period of hydrothermal activity following the main phase of ore formation. The major vein constituents are minerals of the rhodochrosite-calcite solid solution series, followed by quartz, johansenite and pyrite. The β18 O values of these carbonates range from +15.92 per mils to 19.49 per mils while β13 C varies from -5.57 per mils to 8.9 per mils. The stable isotope data indicate the hydrothermal origin of this rhodochrosite-calcite solid solution mineral series. (Original)
