Description

A recent study of brain SPECT using 99mTc-(d,1) HM-PAO was described. Amonmg 141 cases studied, 9 were normal subjects, 99 with cerebrovascular diseases, 14 epilepsy, 9 trauma, 8 brain tumor and 2 dementia. The method used in this study allows the proper and quantitative diagnosis of the region and degree of ischemia. Comparison studies showed that for stroke and tumor, the ischemic regions obtained, with SPECT were consistent with those obtained with CT. For the diagnosis of transient ischemic attack, migraine, epilepsy, dementia and mild trauma, the method used in this work is much better than CT. In addition, the method can be used to indicate the severity of brain diseases and to detect the location of epilepsy foci, to predict strokes and to measure the blood flow of tumors
