Description
A significant milestone in the Republic of Korea (ROK) nuclear power program was achieved in 1995 when Yonggwang (YGN) Units 3 and 4 were accepted into commercial operation by Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco). Each YGN unit produces 1050 MWe and together they supply approximately ten percent of the total electric power demand in the ROK. The YGN units utilize the ABB Combustion Engineering Nuclear Systems (ABB-CE) standard System 80 Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS). This design incorporates many features which provide enhanced margins for safety and performance. The YGN 3 and 4 design serves as the reference design for the Korean Standard Nuclear Power Plant program. Standardization of design features has resulted in many benefits to Kepco, one of which is construction times on a par with the best in the world. YGN Unit 3 was accepted into commercial operation on 31/3/95; the original data established at the time of bidding and contract signing. Since achieving commercial operation, YGN Unit 3 has operated at essentially full power, contributing to performance rate in excess of 85% for 1995. YGN Unit 4 was accepted into commercial operation on 1/1/96, three months ahead of the contract schedule. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
(orig.)Additional details
