Convergent instability in the ionosphere

Description
The linear theory of the ionospheric plasma convergent instability (CI) connected with the inhomogeneous character of plasma motions is considered. The analysis is made of conditions of the CI rise in E and F regions of the ionosphere for vertical ion motions of the different physical nature. The possibility of the generation of small-scale strongly geomagnetic field-aligned irregularities of electron density is shown
