Scaly Neoplasia of conjunctive and cornea, Experience in the National Cancer Institute January 1987 - December 1997

It was carried out a retrospective study including 71 patients with diagnosis of scaly neoplasia of the ocular surface assisted in the National Cancer Institute (NCI) among January 1987 and December 1997, in order to characterizing the epidemic illness, clinical environment, diagnosis and therapeutic. It was found that the pathology is presented in men in 67% of the cases, in its majority of the oriental region of the country. 30% of the patients had antecedent of other skin cancers, mucous and conjunctive. The size of the lesions varied from 1mm2 to 2500 mm2, being 54.9% of the lesions between 1 and 100 mm2. The time of evolution in 66.2% of the cases was smaller than one year. The cornea and the conjunctive were the committed structures, in the nasal location mainly. The treatment with which had bigger time free of illness was the surgery supplemented with topical chemotherapy with tiotepa (p = 0.0096). Relapse was documented in 18% of the cases. The medium of pursuit was 11 months, with accumulated survival of 99.8%
