Systematics of the valence capture model for low-energy neutron radiative capture
Description
The factor of proportionality between the partial photon width and the elastic channel neutron width, introduced by the valence model, is calculated for a large fraction of the periodic table. Results are presented in such a way that they can be used very easily for the analysis of experimental data. Background capture cross sections are estimated for the 4s region. The importance of the inelastic channel components, which are neglected in the valence model, is studied. Their contribution is estimated numerically in some cases. (Auth.)
