Differential and double differential measurements for charge transfer collisions between Na, K, Cs and I2

Description

Charge transfer collisions between the alkali atoms Na, K, Cs and the I2 molecule were studied in a molecular beam apparatus by means of differential and double differential (angle and alkali product ion energy) measurements. The aim of this study was two-fold. An attempt was made to obtain information about the interaction potentials and transition probabilities of the atom-molecule system in the case where the molecule can be considered to be a rigid rotator, i.e. at high collision velocities. For Na + I2→Na+ (I + I)- this is the case at collision energies above 50 eV c.m. Double differential measurements at collision energies below 10 eV, on the other hand, gave us information about the energy transfer from the alkali atom to the iodine molecule for each of the collision channels
