Iterative Reconstruction of CT Images with PETSc

In computed tomography (CT) X-rays are used to obtain the projections needed to generate an image of the internal structure of an object. The image can be reconstructed with different techniques. the Algebraic methods are most appropriate for the reconstruction of high contrast images and accuracy in noisy conditions and the lower number of projections. Its use can be important in portable scanners for emergency functionality. However, in practice, these methods are not widely used due to the high computational cost of its implementation. This paper analyzes and proposes the use of the library PETSc parallel in image reconstruction. In addition, we compare the quality of images reconstructed by two methods, analytical Bacl Filtered Projection (FBP) and iterative LSQR.
