Changes of intracranial and spinal tumours as shown by NMR imaging following radiotheraphy

Description
The aim of this study was to ascertain the advantages that nuclear magnetic resonance imaging may possibly offer over computerized tomography in evaluations of tumour extension and healing success as well as the immediate diagnosis of radiation injuries. In this connection, 21 bearers of intracerebral primary or metastatic tumours were subjected to MRT and CT both before and after radiotherapy. In the patients examined here radiosensitive reactions accessible to MRT occurred at dose levels beyond 55 Gy. These were minor circumscribed changes in the range between 50 and 60 Gy and one severe disseminated oedema of the cerebral medulla following a dose of 70 Gy. (orig./MG)

Ziel der Studie war die Untersuchung eventueller Vorteile der Kernspintomographie gegenueber der CT in der Beurteilung der Tumorausdehnung, des Therapieerfolges und der fruehzeitigen Erkennung von Strahlenreaktionen. Hierzu wurden 21 Patienten mit intrazerebralen Primaertumoren oder Metastasen vor und nach Strahlentherapie kernspin- und computertomographisch untersucht. In unseren Faellen kam es zu MR-tomographisch fassbaren Strahlenreaktionen oberhalb von Dosen von 55 Gy, wobei geringe, umschriebene Veraenderungen bei Dosen von 50-60 Gy beobachtet wurden und ein schweres diffuses Marklageroedem nach 70 Gy.
