Calculation of the physical characteristics of a lead target irradiated with high-energy protons

Description

On the basis of the KASKAD program one calculated spectra of protons and neutrons produced in a lead target irradiated by 1 and 1.6 GeV energy protons. Accumulation of radioactive nuclides is shown to depend on location within target. One made conclusion that from the point of activity and toxicity the lead target irradiated by 1.6 GeV protons was safer in contrast to commercial reactors

Abstract (Russian)

С помощью программы КАСКАД рассчитывались спектры протонов и нейтронов, образующихся в свинцовой мишени, облучаемой протонами с энергией 1 и 1.6 ГэВ. Показано, что накопление радиоактивных нуклидов зависит от местоположения в мишени. Сделан вывод, что с точки зрения активности и токсичности свинцовая мишень, облучаемая 1.6 ГэВ протонами, более безопасна по сравнению с промышленными реакторами
