Dynamics of a gaseous oscillating-core reactor

  • 1. Technische Univ. Delft (New Zealand)

Description

A Gaseous Core Fission Reactor is described based on the use of a fuel gas mixture in chemical equilibrium with a graphite moderator/reflector vessel. The possibility of evoking autonomous oscillations of the fuel gas is analyzed, motivated by the idea that a GCFR operated as a 'nuclear pendulum' might be an option for direct conversion of nuclear into electrical energy. Parameters relevant for the neutron kinetical and gas dynamical behaviour are identified and discussed. (author)
