Process and device for detecting defective fuel elements in a fuel assembly

Description

Process for detecting defective fuel elements by detection of any anomalies in the propagation of ultrasonic sounds in the fuel rods, whereby: - the assembly maintained completely immersed in a protective liquid such as water, - the propagation of ultrasonic waves is induced in each fuel rod of the assembly in turn, over their length, from one of their ends, - an ultrasonic pick-up is placed near the fuel rods of the assembly, - any ultrasonic waves transmitted by defects in the fuel rods through the protective liquid are picked up

Abstract (French)

Procede de detection d'elements combustibles defectueux par detection d'anomalies eventuelles dans la propagation d'ultrasons dans les crayons combustibles, caracterise par le fait: - qu'on maintient l'assemblage entierement plonge dans un liquide de protection tel que l'eau, - qu'on provoque la propagation d'ondes ultra-sonores dans chacun des crayons combustibles de l'assemblage successivement, sur toute leur longueur, depuis l'une de leurs extremites, - qu'on dispose un capteur d'ultrasons au voisinage des crayons combustibles de l'assemblage, - qu'on capte les ondes ultra-sonores eventuellement diffusees par les defauts des crayons combustibles dans le liquide de protection
