Description

After a brief overview of the main energy sources, which are applicable in Pakistan for the rural sector, attention is paid to the wind availability, the windmill history, the windmill manufacturing industry, and an integrated scheme (BARQ-AAB) for the provision of light and water for 100 villages by installing dual function wind turbines along the Makran coast of Pakistan. Data on normals of wind speed and direction are given for Karachi (Masroor), Jiwani and Badin. Also wind roses with percentages of the wind direction frequencies within specified ranges are presented for the Karachi airport, P.A.F. Masroor and Jiwani. Some of the water pumping windmills, their owners and locations are listed. Statistical data on energy production and use, the population, and the agriculture of Pakistan are given. 3 figs., 7 tabs
