Pre-operative localization of hyperfunctioning parathyroid tissue by technetium thallium scintigraphy

  • 1. Stichting Ignatius Ziekenhuis, Breda (Netherlands). Afdeling Nucleaire Geneeskunde

Description

For 21 patients with presumable hyperparathyroidism dual-isotope subtraction techniques were executed with technetium 99m pertechnetates and 201-thallium-chloride. A positive parathyroidscintiscan (PTSc) was found for 13 patients. Six patients had a parathyroidadenome similar to the PTSc indicated image. For one patient the image was caused by a thyroidadenome and hyperparathyroidism by hyperplastic parathyroid glands. Biochemical parameters, as phosphate and calcium concentrations in serum, are also examined. (Auth.)
