Diffraction dissociation in the reaction anti pp → p anti p π+π- at 7.3 GeV/c2

Description
An analysis of the reaction anti pp → anti pp π+ π- at 7.3 GeV/c, assuming that the final state is mainly due to two diagrams, shows the appearance of two resonances at 1460 and 1700 MeV/c2. Assuming that all selected events are produced by diffraction dissociation, the cross section for diffraction dissociation of p or anti p in the anti pp π+ π- final state is 1.2 mb compared with a total cross section for this final state of 3.0 mb
