Clinical significance of combined determination of the changes of serum NO, TGF-α and TNF levels after operation in patients with ovarian cancer
Description
Objective: To investigate the clinical significance of changes of serum NO, TGF-α and TNF levels after operation in patients with ovarian cancer. Methods: Serum levels of NO (with Griss method) and TGF-α, TNF (with RIA) were repeatedly determined in 31 patients with ovarian cancer before operation, 1 month after operation and 6 months after operation as well as in 30 controls. Results: Before operation serum levels of NO were significantly lower (P<0.01) and levels of TGF-α, TNF were significantly higher (P<0.01) than those in the controls. One month after operation, all the serum levels were approaching normal. Six months later, the levels in the patients without recurrence remained normal. However, the levels in the 8 patients with recurrence returned to pre-operative ones again. Conclusion: Changes of serum NO, TGF-α and TNF levels are closely related to the tumor burden and may reflect the presence of recurrence. (authors)
