The modular heavy water reactor as an energy source for nuclear heat supply and power stations
- 1. Gosudarstvennyj Komitet po Ispol'zovaniyu Atomnoj Ehnergii SSSR, Moscow (Russian Federation). Inst. Teoreticheskoj i Ehksperimental'noj Fiziki
Description
The concept of heavy water cooled and moderated reactor suggested as an energy source for nuclear heat supply plants and nuclear electric power generating plants is stated. Main attention is payed to safety. It is asserted that the modular principle, when each fuel assembly is enclosed into an independent rigid casing, in which the natural circulation of two-phase coolant (steam-water mixture) occurs, gives an opportunity to secure increased safety at high economic efficiency, as compared with other analogous plants. The problems requiring experimental substantiations are briefly discussed
