Simplified method for development of earthquake ground and floor response spectra for nuclear power plant design

Description

Ground-response (or structure motion) spectra and the simplified deterministic method used for deriving them are presented. Floor-response (or equipment motion) spectra are developed directly from the ground-response spectra, using the same procedure. Analytical techniques and convenient graphical solutions are given. The results of a sample earthquake analysis, using the described method, are compared with the more tedious, conventional solution involving a real earthquake time-history. Applications relating to the seismic analysis of Canadian nuclear power plants are briefly described. (author)
