Absence of temperature effects on the inhibition of positronium formation

  • 1. Politecnico di Milano (Italy). Centro Studi Nucleari E. Fermi

Description

The so called inhibition of Ps formation in aqueous solutions of NO3-, Cl- and Cd2+ ions was investigated at several solute concentrations C as a function of the temperature between 5 and 450C. The aim of this investigation was to ascertain whether: (1) the inhibition constant K for NO3- ions and (2) the o-Ps intensity for C → infinity,I(infinity),in NO3-, Cl- and Cd2+ ion solutions are dependent on temperature. It was found that both K and I(infinity) are independent of temperature as suggested by the Ore gap plus hot reaction model for the Ps formation and inhibition. These results are also briefly discussed on the basis of the spur model for the Ps formation. (author)
