Description
A comparison work between French and German codified practices applicable to nuclear components is done in the frame of the REP (pressurized water reactor) 2000 and EPR (European Pressurized water Reactor) projects and will be enlarged in the European Working Group on Codes and Standards. This comparison shows that the methods codified in France and Germany are not very different from a technical point of view. The larger differences come from different philosophies and/or organizations and design choices. In a second part, French and German regulatory requirements and code provisions relative to fast fracture evaluation at design stage are presented and orientations for EPR technical rules in this field are given. A common proposal appears to be possible for the brittle failure risk, and first proposals are under preparation for the EPR design needs.
