Mass spectrometry: application to the analysis of gases and development of their dosage in solid micro-samples
Description
Originally used to determine the masses of the different elements and then the isotopic contents, mass spectrometry has become a physical method of analysis. Its field of applications is very vast: studies of gases, solids and liquids, both organic and mineral. The mass spectrometer essentially comprises three parts: - a source which creates ions from a sample, extracts them and accelerates them; - a variable analyzer system from one device to another separates them according to M/Q; - an appropriate detector which determines for each mass the intensity of the ion beam. The work was carried out on a VG 1201 type gas mass spectrometer with simple focusing. In order to determine the gases contained in micro-samples of mainly amorphous materials, an extraction device and an online analysis method have been developed

Employee a l'origine pour la determination des masses des differents elements puis des teneurs isotopiques, la spectrometrie de masse est devenue une methode physique d'analyse. Son domaine d'application est tres vaste: etudes des gaz, des solides et des liquides tant bien organiques que mineraux. Le spectrometre de masse comprend essentiellement trois parties: - une source qui cree des ions a partir d'un echantillon, les extrait et les accelere; - un systeme analyseur variable d'un appareil a l'autre les separe suivant M/Q; - un detecteur approprie qui determine pour chaque masse l'intensite du faisceau ionique. Notre travail a ete realise sur un spectrometre de masse a gaz type VG 1201 a simple focalisation. Afin de determiner les gaz contenus dans des micro-echantillons de materiaux amorphes principalement, nous avons mis au point un dispositif d'extraction et une methode d'analyse en ligne. Nous allons detailler successivement ces differents points et donner des exemples d'application. (auteur)Files
