Antiproton interactions in carbon and antiproton--nucleon resonances

Description

The ratio N(anti pn)/N(anti pp) is measured for stopping anti p in propane and found to be 0.63 +- 0.05, in good agreement with Bugg, Condo and Hart. Comparison of this number with the same ratio obtained in deuterium (0.763 +- 0.019) suggest resonant structure of the anti pN system near threshold. N(anti pN)/N(anti pp) is measured for in-flight carbon annihilations and the results confirm an anti pN resonance near 1932 MeV seen earlier by Carroll et al., and also identify the resonance as being an I = 1 state
