K+K- -angular distribution analysis of the reaction γp → K+K- x in the phi-meson region
Description
In the phi meson region the inelastic reaction γp → K+K- x (Msub(x) > Msub(p)) was measured at DESY with a tagged photon beam (4.6 <= E%GA <= 6.7 GeV) and a magnet spark chamber spectrometer. The experimental set-up and the separation of the inelastic reaction from the elastic photoproduction γp→ K+K- p is described and cross - sections for the inelastic reaction are given. The K+K- - angular distribution was investigated; the spin-density matrix elements and moments in the s- and t-channel-helicity-system have been evaluated. It appears that the process γp → K+ K- x has contributions from phi-production and the direct nonresonant production of K+K- - pairs. The ovserved angular and mass distributions can be well explained using a parametrisation, where in a simple model the inelastic phi-photoproduction is assumed to be helicity conserving and coherent with the direct produced K+K- final states. Mit einem Magnet-Funkenkammer-Spektrometer wurde beim DESY die inelastische Photoproduktion von K+K- -Paaren im Bereich des phi- Mesons mit energiemarkierten Photonen von 4.6 <= Esub(γ) <= 6.7 GeV gemessen. Der experimentelle Aufbau und die Abtrennung der inelastischen von der elastischen Reaktion γp → K+K- p wird beschrieben und Wirkungsquerschnitte fuer die inelastische Reaktion angegeben. Der Schwerpunkt der Arbeit liegt auf der Untersuchung der K+K- - Winkelverteilung und der Bestimmung der Spin-Dichtematrixelemente und Momente im s- und t-Kanal-Helizitaetssystem. Dabei zeigt sich, dass neben γp → phi x → K+K- x auch ein erheblicher Teil nichtresonant erzeugter K+K- - Paare vorhanden sind und deshalb Interferenzen auftreten. Es wird eine Parametrisierung der Ergebnisse angegeben, wo in einem einfachen Modell die inelastische phi Photoproduktion helizitaetserhaltend und kohaerent zu den direkt erzeugten K+K- Endzustaenden angenommen wird.
