Methods for the Removal of Radioactive Iodides Adopted in France
Description
Recent studies by British and American scientists have disclosed the presence of penetrating forms of iodine, especially methyl iodide, in fission products released after reactor accidents. The paper deals with the efforts made to establish which of the various methods proposed for the removal of these nuclides are suited to conditions in France. The first part of the paper contains the results of a study on the trapping of methyl iodide with French-made activated carbons impregnated with potassium iodide or triethylene diamine. The second part describes the auxiliary equipment which it has been decided should be incorporated in reactors and the methods of inspection adopted both for manufacture and for use in situ. (author)

Des études récentes effectuées par des expérimentateurs anglais et américains ont montré la présence, dans les dégagements de produits de fission lors d'accident de réacteur, de formes pénétrantes d'iode, notamment d'iodure de méthyle. Parmi les différentes propositions pour l ' épuration de ces formes, une solution adaptée aux problèmes français a été recherchée. Dans une première partie l ' auteur expose les résultats d' une étude du piégeage de l' iodure de méthyle au moyen de charbons activés français imprégnés à l'iodure de potassium ou à la triéthylènediamine. Dans une deuxième partie, il décrit les dispositifs retenus pour l' équipement des réacteurs et les méthodes de contrôle adoptées tant à la fabrication qu'in situ. (author)Additional details
