Discharge of shock homopolar generator without magnetic circuit while pulsed excitation
Description
The discharge of shock homopolar generator without a ferromagnetic core and with a water-cooled exciting winding, consuming high power is considered. The discharge is carried out at pulsed excitation which makes it possible to decrease the thermal load of the winding and to release its necessary power. Upon exciting the generator , the winding is short-circuited and its power supply is off. This allows the stored energy to be reduced. The analysis of the transient porcess in the generator-load circuit is geven. As a result, the diagrams are obtained that allow the calculation of current pulse characteristics to be carried out. In case the parameters of the shock homopolar generator and the load are matched properly, the use of the excitation method described may be very efficient. To reduce the time necessary to exite the generator, a shock synchronous generator may be used as an exciter that is switched in when its e.m.f. is zero. The fast excitation of the generator makes, it possible not to use a contactor in the circuit as discharge currents of the generator may be of some million amps
