Ion beam-stimulated processes in glasses

Description

The mechanism of complicated ion-beam-stimulated physicochemical processes in glasses is considered. A model of structural transformation in ion-modified glasses is developed. This model was the basis for practical recommendations for commercial ion-beam modification processes. It is found that formation of chemical compounds involving implanted impurities, atomic sputtering of the surface and appearance of high gradients of mechanical stresses in modified glasses make the main contribution to changes in the structure and properties in ion-beam-modification
