Cooling device upon reactor shutdown
- 1. Toshiba Corp., Kawasaki, Kanagawa (Japan)
Description
Purpose: To improve the cooling efficiency by enabling to increase the flow rate of cooling system upon reactor shutdown. Constitution: In a cooling system upon reactor shut-down, a portion of reactor water is sent from a suction nozzle disposed exclusively to a reactor pressure vessel by way of a pump through a suction pipeway to a heat exchanger. After cooling, the water is returned by way of a feedwater spurger or flooding spurger to the pressure vessel thereby cooling the reactor core. In such a cooling system, a portion of the suction flow is sent from the vicinity of the discharge portion of the pump to a reactor coolant clean-up system, returned near the suction nozzle at the upstream of the pump and joined with water flowing through the suction pipeway. Even if cavitation or steam envolving phenomenon occurs in the suction nozzle, air bubbles, warmed water, etc. can instantly be condensated with returned water. (Kawakami, Y.)
